Visit Florence, and the track "Too Tough to Tame" will be in your backyard.
Florence is the place to be during race week for the Bojangles’ Southern 500! The Nationwide Series and Sprint Cup races are held each year at the Darlington Raceway over Mother’s Day weekend. Darlington is known as the track “Too Tough to Tame” and with two exciting races around the egg shaped track, it’s sure to be an exciting weekend!
The fun kicks off on Thursday evening, May 9th, at the Darlington Car Hauler Parade and Festival at the Florence Civic Center. See all of the NASCAR transporters up close and enjoy games, food, live entertainment and maybe even a few drivers! There is a carnival area with race themed activities for the kids and a silent auction to benefit a local charity.
Once the festival is over, the haulers line up and head through town to Darlington! You can lineup along the 12 mile stretch of parade route to get pictures of your favorite driver’s hauler as they make their way to the track. The Darlington Car Hauler Parade and Festival is free and offers fun for all ages. See the video from last year’s festival here.
The fun continues with a weekend full of racing. On Friday night, catch the Nationwide Series 200. See all of the up and coming stars as they try to conquer the challenging track. Then, on Saturday night, your favorite Sprint Cup drivers start their engine for the legendary Southern 500. Packages are available to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the racing action at the Darlington Raceway.
